This one-of-a-kind brooch features a found cuttlebone fragment from a beach in Siracusa, Sicily. Opposite of the bone fragment is a silver casting of the fragment. Cuttlebones were used as molds for one of the earliest methods of metal casting, and is still used today. Cuttlebones offer a unique texture on the cast metal.

Nero di seppia translates to “cuttlebone ink” or “squid ink” which is used a regional umami-rich spaghetti dish found in Sicily.
